World Championship Racing Chain! Almost all Teams in MotoGP (e.g Yamaha, Ducati) and WorldSBK use this DID 520 ERV3 chain. It is the lightest chain which provides a safe function at the strongest and heaviest racing bikes. It has in addition an acceptable  mileage.
Compared to OE chains of the latest serial superbikes (e.g. DID 525 ZVMX) the EVR3 is about 30% lighter and runs easier, too (racing chain). The whole 520 chain kit corresponds to lower one digit engine horse power increase (by less to accelerate masses and less in turning to accelerate masses, and easier run). The lower moment of inertia (by mass and turning masses) also provides a better handling, especially at change of directions.
Because of lower tensile strength (17% compared to DID 525 ZVMX) it is recommended not to use this chain for clutch-wheelies or two person rides. You also should change the chain immediately, if there are obvious signs of wear (for safety, and for not to lose power). Also chain tension should always be perfect: On the longest way of the chain (front and rear sprocket and rocker arm pivot in a line) it should have sufficient play, no tension. At most bikes this correlates to 5 cm up / down difference of the lower chain in neutral gear position. A chain with (too much) tension causes chain wear, has negative influence on suspention and power and might destroy gearbox bearing and seal.

Change chain (short recommendation)
  • loose the front sprocket nut, if necessary with two persons: first gear, use rear brake and right tools)
  • cut off the rivet heads of the chain lock
  • use the chain tool to push out the chain lock bolts, take chain off
  • take front sprocket off, rear wheel out, screw rear sprocket off
  • mount the new chain kit in reverse way
  • put in the new chain lock with much of grease, don`t forget the seals
  • press on the chain lock plate with the chain tool, check measurement
  • use right position of the chain tool to rivet the chain lock bolts
  • fasten and secure the front sprocket nut (1. gear, rear brake, see above)
  • adjust chain tension
